Good morning, baseball fans.
This is somehow shaping up to be one of the worst offseasons for the San Francisco Giants that I can remember.
Here I was, wanting to write a cheerful little pre-holiday post, trying to find some silver linings and happy thoughts. And then I clicked on this here website to open up a new story only to see Bryan’s post about Yoshinobu Yamamoto signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
If you’re a Dodgers fan, this must feel like Ralphie finding that one more gift at the end of A Christmas Story.
Meanwhile, if you’re a Giants fan, it’s a lot like the Grinch stealing the roast beast as insult to injury after taking all of the rest of the Christmas joy from the Whos down in Whoville.
The Giants had two main targets this offseason: Shohei Ohtani and Yamamoto. They failed to sign either. Which is...well, kind of to be expected I guess. But the salt in the wound is that their rivals signed both.
And again, I can’t really be mad at the Dodgers for doing so. That’s what your team should be doing.
It’s just not what our team is doing. So I can be mad at them. And so can you. Let the anger fuel the flames of your yule log.
I hope all of you that celebrate have a wonderful Christmas, free of the Grinch. But to the Giants’ front office and ownership group, and to the Dodgers for good measure, I say “Bah Humbug.”
