Anthony DeSclafani vs. Jon Gray

The San Francisco Giants close out this three game series against the Colorado Rockies this afternoon, hoping to get a sweep.

Taking the mound for the Giants is Anthony DeSclafani, who enters today’s game with a 3.24 ERA, 3.82 FIP, with 132 strikeouts to 39 walks in 141 innings pitched. DeSclafani’s last start was one of his better starts of the season, leading the Giants to a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. DeSclafani allowed only two hits, zero runs, three walks and struck out five in six innings of work.

He’ll be facing off against the Rockies’ right hander Jon Gray, who enters today’s game with a 4.13 ERA, 4.01 FIP, with 125 strikeouts to 53 walks in 126 innings pitched. Gray’s last start was also against the Dodgers, on August 28th, but he left the game in the third inning due to right forearm tightness. He was initially expected not to start again until tomorrow, but will instead be activated from the 10-day injured list today.

Gray was roughed up in his last four starts prior to that, getting the loss in all four and averaging about four runs per start. And in his 14 career starts against the Giants, he has a 5.88 ERA, with a 2-7 record.

Brandon Belt and Brandon Crawford, in particular, have had great success against Gray, Belt has a .400 average against him in 30 at bats, with two home runs and five RBI; and Crawford has a .348 average in 23 at bats, with a home run and seven RBI.
