Wednesday BP: Alex Wood might be close to re-joining the team

Wood has been on the undisclosed injured list after testing positive for COVID-19 since August 30th.

MLB: San Francisco Giants at New York Mets Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning, baseball fans! There was news yesterday about Alex Wood’s possible return from the unspecified injured list after he tested positive for COVID-19. Wood had considerable symptoms, and has been recovering slowly. Per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Gabe Kapler says that Wood has “turned the corner”, however, and is hoping to be ready to throw off the mound by this weekend.

COVID-19 is anything but predictable in terms of recovery time, but hopefully that time table is accurate and we’ll be seeing him back on the field soon.

Wood has asked that the team not disclose his vaccination status.

Wood was placed on the injured list on August 30th, meaning he would be eligible to resume baseball activities as of Thursday. With the team on the road, he would be throwing off the mound at Oracle Park. Which puts him ahead of Johnny Cueto, whom the team has not scheduled any bullpen sessions for as of yet.
