The penultimate series of the season is underway, and the San Francisco Giants will try to hold — or add to — their two-game lead in the NL West. With six games left, I wouldn’t say the lead feels comfortable, but it certainly feels firmly in the Giants control. If they handle business, they’re in.
The Giants are turning to righty Logan Webb, whose three-month run of brilliance was recently interrupted by a few rough starts. It’s still been a sensational season for the 24 year old, who has a 3.04 ERA, a 2.81 FIP, and 144 strikeouts to 34 walks in 136.1 innings.
The D-Backs are countering with right-handed pitcher Luke Weaver, who should provide the Giants with opportunities. Weaver has a 4.38 ERA and 4.49 FIP, with 56 strikeouts to 16 walks in 61.2 innings. But at least he’s doing better than last year, when he managed a 1-9 record in just 12 starts.
