The San Francisco Giants welcome the San Diego Padres to Oracle Park tonight to kick off a four game series. The Giants will be seeing a lot of the Padres over the final few weeks of the season, and with both teams having playoff intentions, these series will be quite impactful. The Giants, however, can clinch a playoff spot with a win tonight.
They’ll be looking to do so behind their bullpen tonight, with Dominic Leone getting the start. Leone enters tonight’s game with a 1.48 ERA, 3.37 FIP with 40 strikeouts to 20 walks in 42.2 innings pitched. Leone has opened two other games for the Giants this week, both scoreless. His last appearance was on Friday, where he pitched two scoreless innings, striking out two.
Taking the mound for the Padres will be Yu Darvish, who enters tonight’s game with a 3.95 ERA, 3.67 FIP, with 174 strikeouts to 33 walks in 146 innings pitched. Darvish’s last start was against the Los Angeles Angels on September 8th, where he led the Padres to an 8-5 victory, allowing three hits, one run, one walk and striking out seven in six innings of work. It was his best start since June, as he’d been averaging roughly 4.22 runs per start since then.
