The Giants face the Mets again tonight in game two of this three game series.
Taking the mound for the Giants tonight will be Johnny Cueto. Cueto enters tonight’s game with a 3.89 ERA, 3.93 FIP, with 92 strikeouts to 24 walks in 104 innings pitched. Cueto hasn’t pitched since August 8th, against the Brewers, where he allowed five hits, four runs (three earned), with a walk and three strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched.
He’ll be facing off against Taijuan Walker, who enters tonight’s game with a 3.86 ERA, 4.28 FIP, with 114 strikeouts to 45 walks in 123 innings pitched. Walker’s last start was against the Dodgers on August 19th, in which he allowed six hits, four earned runs, a walk and struck out four in six innings pitched.
There isn’t a whole lot of history between these teams and their opposing pitchers. But Brandon Drury has averaged .700 against Cueto in 10 at bats. And Brandon Belt has a home run against Walker, and a handful of other players have an RBI against him. My expectation is that this one will be a fairly high scoring game.
