Wednesday BP: Conspiracy Corner

Baseball fans on the internet are convinced that the Giants are up to something.

Good Morning, baseball fans! And welcome to the conspiracy corner. That’s right, it turns out that “Even Year BS” is so 2010s. This decade’s hottest new complaint is that the Giants must be cheating!

Now, a caveat, given the way things have panned out with other teams over the last few years: I can’t say for certain that they aren’t. None of us can. For all we know there could be drones up above the outfield with lights indicating which pitch is coming. Maybe Michael Morse is in the bleachers with a set of binoculars and a walkie talkie. Maybe Brandon Crawford is eating Popeye’s special blend of spinach. Who knows! That’s not the point.

The point is that it’s hilarious, to me. I’ve seen people complaining that Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford and Brandon Belt are old and couldn’t possibly be playing this well without the aid of performance enhancing substances. The same Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford and Brandon Belt who have had huge postseason success couldn’t possibly be on their way to helping their team try to get more postseason success? Okay, fine, let’s talk about that.

What incentive do these players have to do that? They’ve had just about all the success a player could have. Just absolutely sparkling careers filled with All Star Games, Golden Gloves, Silver Sluggers, an MVP Award, and World Series Trophies. What incentive is there, at this point, to cheat?

I think it just boils down to the Giants are good again and people are Mad Online about it and that, to me, is hilarious.
