And so the churn continues. On Wednesday afternoon, prior to their series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the San Francisco Giants placed right-handed pitcher Johnny Cueto on the 10-day Injured List, citing a right flexor strain. It came just a week after Anthony DeSclafani was also placed on the 10-day IL.
Taking Cueto’s place on the roster is infielder Thairo Estrada, who was recalled from AAA Sacramento after being very recently optioned.

IF Thairo Estrada recalled from Triple-A Sacramento.
It seemed likely that Evan Longoria would be the one to join the roster if someone were placed on the IL, but apparently he’s still a few days away. It’s entirely possible that Estrada is optioned within the next few days to make room for Longoria.
It’s Cueto’s second stint on the IL this year, after he missed a few starts early in the season. He’s been having a solid, albeit not great season, with a 3.89 ERA, a 3.93 FIP, and 92 strikeouts to 24 walks in 104 innings. Hopefully he’ll just miss one start.
As for Estrada, the Giants get to add yet another right-handed bat to the bench. Estrada is hitting .303/.376/.447 in 85 plate appearances this year, good for a 123 OPS+.
