Giants select RHP Eric Silva with No. 115 pick

The Giants went for a prep arm in the fourth round with the JSerra Catholic High School pitcher.

San Diego Padres v San Francisco Giants

The San Francisco Giants finally deviated from their trend on Monday ... kind of. After drafting college pitchers in the first three rounds of the 2021 MLB Draft, the Giants used their fourth round pick on a high school player.

But they’re sticking with pitchers.

The Giants took RHP Eric Silva with the No. 115 pick on Monday. Silva is from JSerra Catholic High School is San Juan Capistrano in Southern California.

Silva is 18.8 years old, and listed at 6’1”, 185 pounds, with a fastball that touches 97 mph. He was listed as the No. 126 prospect on MLB’s big board, and the No. 140 prospect on ESPN’s.

According to Perfect Game, Silva pounds the strike zone and has a high spin rate (something, it should be noted, that can’t really be taught). Pounding the strike zone with a high spin rate has Giants written all over it, so no surprises here.

Looks good to me.
