There was only one game on Monday from the San Francisco Giants farm, as the three lowest-level affiliates all had the day off. That happens every Monday this year.
So let’s get into what happened with the organization’s pool for MLB depth, Sacramento.
AAA Sacramento (17-23)
Sacramento River Cats beat the Salt Lake Bees (Angels) 7-6
Box score
It was a dramatic game in Sacramento on Monday, as the River Cats scored 4 runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk it off. Thairo Estrada — who is having a killer season, with a 1.041 OPS — had the big hit, a game-tying three-run home run.

Then came the fun drama. Jaylin Davis worked a two-out walk, and scored from first on a routine fly ball from Joe McCarthy that old friend Jon Jay — whom the Giants have faced in the postseason on numerous occasions — decided to simply not catch.

It’s a very small sample size, but Davis is drawing walks at a better rate than in all but one of his previous seasons (AA with the Twins organization in 2019). We know that’s what the Giants are asking him to do — and what he’ll need to do to get called up again — so hopefully it holds.
On the other side of things, the Giants defense did their pitchers few favors, as a pair of errors led to 5 of the 6 allowed runs to be unearned. Tyler Beede again struggled (necessary disclaimer: this is very normal for pitchers rehabbing from Tommy John surgery), as he allowed 5 hits, 3 walks, and 5 runs (just 1 earned) in 3 innings, while striking out 3.
Jay Jackson made his second rehab appearance and put up the same stat line as in the first: 1 inning, 0 baserunners, 2 strikeouts.
Hooray for exciting baseball.
Injury notes
High-A Eugene outfielder Hunter Bishop — the No. 4 prospect in our Community Prospect List — reportedly suffered a setback to his shoulder strain that has limited him to just three games this season.
According to a source, #SFGiants prospect Hunter Bishop was nearing a return from the injured list last week when he reaggravated his left shoulder strain in his second to last scheduled rehab game in Arizona. Remains unclear if he and the org have a new timetable for him yet.
