I have a weird infatuation with a four-game series for one reason: it’s really fun when you’re in the position the San Francisco Giants are currently in. They basically have a three-game series against the Miami Marlins ahead of them, but they’ve already banked a win.

Grab a Friday night win, and you’ve got a series split, with two whole chances to go for the series win. Optimism and opportunity fills the air, as baseballs and the scent of garlic fries soon will.

Longo available ... maybe: A day after leaving a game due to an aggravated hamstring, Evan Longoria is, not surprisingly, out of the lineup. But the Giants are hoping he’s available to pinch hit, which is good, because they only have four bench players right now.

Injury updates: Looks light Donovan Solano will be out for a while, but on the bright side, Reyes Moronta is nearing a return.
