We’ve got another baseball game already, because it’s the time of year when ... uhh ... baseball games happen all the freaking time.

The San Francisco Giants opened up their first home series of the year in delightful fashion, and now they get to go for a series win on a gorgeous Saturday.

Game #8

Who: San Francisco Giants (4-3) vs. Colorado Rockies (3-5)
Where: Oracle Park, San Francisco, California
When: 1:05 p.m. PT
Regional broadcast: NBC Sports Bay Area (available through fuboTV)
National broadcast: None
Radio: KNBR 680 AM/104.5 FM

Lineups

Righty on the mound for the Rockies, so a lot of lefties in the box for the Giants.

We’re deep enough into the season that I’m switching from using last year’s stats to this year’s and ... well that makes the Giants lineup look a lot worse. Sorry.

  1. 2B — Tommy La Stella (L) — .167/.286/.333 — 75 OPS+
  2. RF — Mike Yastrzemski (L) — .120/.214/.240 — 29 OPS+
  3. LF — Alex Dickerson (L) — .154/.313/.385 — 97 OPS+
  4. 1B — Brandon Belt (L) — .143/.250/.143 — 16 OPS+
  5. 3B — Evan Longoria (R) — .318/.400/.773 — 223 OPS+
  6. SS — Brandon Crawford (L) — .136/.174/.318 — 36 OPS+
  7. C — Buster Posey (R) — .333/.400/.667 — 196 OPS+
  8. CF — Mauricio Dubón (R) — .143/.200/.143 — 0 OPS+
  9. RHP — Logan Webb — 5.06 ERA, 5.42 FIP, 5 K and 3 BB in 5.1 IP

And here’s Colorado’s crew, which does not have a lot of lefties against the Giants righty.

  1. CF — Garrett Hampson (R) — .259/.333/.333 — 79 OPS+
  2. 2B — Ryan McMahon (L) — .310/.333/.793 — 188 OPS+
  3. SS — Trevor Story (R) — .229/.250/.343 — 57 OPS+
  4. RF — Charlie Blackmon (L) — .154/.241/.346 — 55 OPS+
  5. 1B — C.J. Cron (R) — .174/.321/.261 — 59 OPS+
  6. LF — Raimel Tapia (L) — .214/.214/.321 — 41 OPS+
  7. 3B — Josh Fuentes (R) — .192/.192/.346 — 40 OPS+
  8. C — Elias Díaz (R) — .143/.250/.143 — 9 OPS+
  9. RHP — Chi Chi Gonzalez — 5.40 ERA, 3.37 FIP, 4 K and 3 BB in 5 IP

Notes

La Stella! Due to platooning and small injuries that have kept him out of the lineup, Tommy La Stella — the first player in Farhan Zaidi’s Giants tenure to get a three-year contract — is getting just his second start of the season.

Donnie Barrels: Really cool stat for Donovan Solano, who isn’t in the starting lineup, but is one of five right-handed bats available off the bench.

Hard hits!

The Giants offense has not been good yet this season, but they are making hard contact.

The Giants also rank 26th in baseball in BABIP. So while they definitely need to do a better job hitting, they’re also likely to see much better results even if they keep doing the same thing.

Enjoy the baseball, friends.
