Monday BP: Home uniforms with names?

The Giants are putting surnames on their home uniforms this year.

Hello and happy Monday.

The San Francisco Giants flawless cream home uniforms are getting a controversial change: names. Yes, the Giants will be putting surnames on the back of the jerseys going forward, executive vice president of business operations Mario Alioto told KNBR.

“We will have names on the back of jerseys, and it’s been something we’ve been debating for years,” Alioto told the radio station, as transcribed by Kerry Crowley of the Bay Area News Group.

You can understand the decision, since the Giants have made it their mission the last two years to use as many players as possible. Sure, numbers are supposed to serve that purpose, but you’re forgiven if you can’t remember which number is Andrew Triggs and which is Joe McCarthy.

Still, this probably won’t go over well with the fanbase. The home uniforms are iconic, traditional, and gorgeous, and the cleanliness and simplicity will be greatly missed with the addition of some ugly lettering.

I don’t like it.
