Good morning, baseball fans!

The San Francisco Giants made some moves yesterday. The biggest news is that they extended a qualifying offer to Brandon Belt, who now has 10 days to accept or decline the $18.4 million offer. With the sudden retirement of Buster Posey last week, Belt has likely moved up on the priority list for the organization. Belt will likely decline the offer, preferring to work out something more long term. Farhan Zaidi has said that talks with Belt’s representatives are ongoing.

Notably not on the list of qualifying offers were Alex Wood and Anthony DeSclafani.

The Giants also exercised club options on LHP Jose Alvarez, IF Wilmer Flores and RHP Jay Jackson. They also declined the club option on Johnny Cueto, which I think most of us saw coming. Still, it’s said to see Cueto go. He provided so many great games and brought a wonderful energy to the team, which was often a bright spot in some rough seasons.
