Hello and happy Wednesday.

The San Francisco Giants will begin their first postseason journey in five years on Friday, when they host either the Los Angeles Dodgers or St. Louis Cardinals at 6:37 p.m. PT.

We don’t yet know who will start that game for the Giants, and chances are we won’t know until shortly before the game starts.

But we do know it will be either Kevin Gausman or Logan Webb, the two pitchers who have performed like aces this year for San Francisco. While the Giants are keeping mum on who starts the series, Gabe Kapler revealed on Tuesday that both pitchers will be available for a potential Game 5, if the NLDS goes the distance. That game would be on Thursday, Oct. 14, meaning it would be full rest for both Gausman and Webb, as there are off days on Sunday and Wednesday.

In all likelihood, the Game 1 starter will start Game 5, with the other pitcher ready to take over early if things even flirt with going off the rails. But it also could be that the team analyzes how each pitcher does this weekend, and chooses the Game 5 starter based on that.

Gausman finished the year with a 2.81 ERA, a 3.00 FIP, and 227 strikeouts to 50 walks in 192 innings. Webb concluded the season with a 3.03 ERA, a 2.72 FIP, and 158 strikeouts to 36 walks in 148.1 innings.

What time is the baseball today?

The Giants don’t play for two more days, but they’ll find out who they’re facing in the NLDS today. The Dodgers host the Cardinals tonight at 5:10 p.m. PT on TBS.

Have a lovely Wednesday, friends.
