10/14 Gamethread: NLDS Game 5: Giants vs. Dodgers

Logan Webb vs. Corey Knebel

MLB: NLDS-Los Angeles Dodgers at San Francisco Giants D. Ross Cameron-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco Giants take on the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight in Game 5 of the National League Division Series. The winner of tonight’s game advances to the National League Championship Series, where the Atlanta Braves will be waiting for them.

In some ways, it was always destined to come down to this. After battling each other all season to top the NL West, these two teams ended up being the best in the game. And now they are at the end of the road. The final battle. I’m not saying that the rest of the postseason would be a cake walk for the winner of this game, but I am saying it’s a damn shame one of them will be leaving after the first round. This is truly a match up for the ages.

And as usual, in elimination games, everything is on the table. The Dodgers are already trying to galaxy brain their way to a win. As Brady posted earlier, they announced that Corey Knebel will be starting (read “opening”) this game. And you should really go read his write up for what that means for the Giants in the early game.

But they will, ultimately, be facing off against Julio Urías, who has absolutely had the Giants’ number in his last two starts against them, both blowout wins for the Dodgers.

The Giants will be putting their hopes on Logan Webb, who was phenomenal in his Game 1 start on Friday. In his postseason debut, Webb called to mind echoes of Tim Lincecum’s 2010 NLDS Game 1 start, allowing five hits, zero runs and striking out 10 in 7.2 innings pitched. The Giants will need him to do it again tonight with the season on the line, but no pressure kid.

While you wait, Brady is here to give you some hope and optimism, which he’s very good at! And which the Giants have mostly been very good at providing us with this year. So go read that while you’re waiting for the game to start so you don’t need a barf bucket in the first inning.
