Notes

Slater in, Duggar out: Austin Slater was reinstated before the game, after about two weeks on the Injured List. Steven Duggar was optioned to make room for him. It will be great to see Slater back in, and he could be a difference maker: he’s hitting 9-20 with 3 home runs, 1 double, and 6 walks against lefties.

Home runs? After a few atrocious years with the long ball, the Giants are starting to hit a good number of dingers. They’re averaging 1.3 homers per game, after just 1.0 a year ago, and 0.8 the year prior. Bumgarner has been trending in a bad direction with allowing homers for a few years now, and he’s already given up 7 home runs in 17.1 innings this year.

Ruf! The Giants have faced a lot of righties lately, and Alex Dickerson has been hot enough that he’s gotten the start against a fair number of lefties. And so Darin Ruf gets just his second start in the last week-plus.

Enjoy the baseball, friends.
