After last night’s demoralizing loss, the San Francisco Giants are not in as good of position as they hoped to be in. But they still control their fate as they head into the season’s penultimate game, against the San Diego Padres.

There are three ways that the Giants can get in the postseason:

  1. They win on Saturday and Sunday.
  2. They win on Saturday or Sunday, but not both, the Philadelphia Phillies lose one of their final two games (against the Tampa Bay Rays), and the Milwaukee Brewers lose one of their final two games (against the St. Louis Cardinals).
  3. They lose on Saturday and Sunday and the Phillies and Brewers lose both of their final two games.

They won’t be eliminated tonight, but if everything breaks the right way they can clinch tonight.
