The San Francisco Giants won’t be eliminated if they lose to the Colorado Rockies tonight. But my oh my this is about as close as you can get to a must-win without actually being a must-win.

Game #54

Who: San Francisco Giants (26-27) vs. Colorado Rockies (24-29)
Where: Oracle Park, San Francisco, California
When: 6:45 p.m. PT
Regional broadcast: NBC Sports Bay Area (available through fuboTV)
National broadcast: None

Lineups

Not the best one the Giants have fielded this season, but it’s entirely right-handed.

  1. DH — Austin Slater (R) — .304/.407/.536 — 160 OPS+
  2. 1B — Wilmer Flores (R) — .267/.319/.494 — 122 OPS+
  3. 2B — Donovan Solano (R) — .341/.383/.494 — 142 OPS+
  4. LF — Darin Ruf (R) — .284/.363/.543 — 147 OPS+
  5. 3B — Evan Longoria (R) — .266/.302/.432 — 101 OPS+
  6. CF — Mauricio Dubón (R) — .286/.345/.368 — 99 OPS+
  7. SS — Daniel Robertson (R) — .333/.400/.333 — 108 OPS+
  8. C — Joey Bart (R) — .232/.292/.293 — 64 OPS+
  9. RF — Luis Basabe (S) — .154/.353/.154 — 49 OPS+
    LHP — Drew Smyly — 3.94 ERA, 1.75 FIP, 27 K and 6 BB in 16 IP

In theory this Rockies lineup is weak, but I said that last night.

  1. LF — Raimel Tapia (L) — .290/.349/.361 — 81 OPS+
  2. CF — Kevin Pillar (R) — .283/.327/.462 — 105 OPS+
  3. SS — Trevor Story (R) — .296/.370/.544 — 127 OPS+
  4. RF — Charlie Blackmon (L) — .308/.365/.462 — 108 OPS+
  5. 1B — Josh Fuentes (R) — .252/.360/.507 — 117 OPS+
  6. DH — Matt Kemp (R) — .228/.296/.412 — 77 OPS+
  7. 3B — Ryan McMahon (L) — .212/.301/.390 — 74 OPS+
  8. 2B — Garrett Hampson (R) — .238/.286/.406 — 73 OPS+
  9. C — Tony Wolters (L) — .222/.263/.267 — 35 OPS+
    LHP — Kyle Freeland — 3.75 ERA, 4.28 FIP, 43 K and 18 BB in 62.1 IP

Notes

Catcher swap: Earlier on Tuesday, the Giants placed catcher Chadwick Tromp on the Injured List, and recalled Opening Day starter Tyler Heineman.

No Brandons: I understand the desire to get all right-handers in the lineup, especially since the offense is stagnant. But it’s weird not having Brandon Crawford and Brandon Belt in there, and this defensive setup looks atrocious.

Enjoy the baseball, friends.
