The San Francisco Giants made a few moves on Sunday, most notably placing right-handed reliever Trevor Gott on the Injured List. Gott will be replaced by fellow right-handed reliever Rico Garcia, who joins the active roster for the third time this season.
San Francisco also recalled infielder Daniel Robertson, who becomes the 29th member of the active roster. With the Giants set to play a Sunday doubleheader against the San Diego Padres, the team was allowed an additional roster spot.
ROSTER MOVES:
— SFGiants (@SFGiants) September 13, 2020
• IF Daniel Robertson designated as 29th man for both games of today’s doubleheader.
• RHP Trevor Gott placed on the 10-day IL with right elbow inflammation (retroactive to 9/10).
• RHP Rico Garcia recalled from the Alternate Training Site.#SFGiants
Gott’s 10-day stint on the IL is due to elbow inflammation, and is retractive to Thursday, meaning he’ll be available to rejoin the team on Sept. 20. He’s been having a rough year, though that’s almost entirely due to a horrible three-game stretch when he allowed 11 earned runs in 1.1 innings and blew three leads.
He was removed from the closer spot after that fiasco, and has been pitching well since. In six appearances since then he’s allowed 3 hits, 3 walks, and 1 earned run in 4.1 innings while striking out 4. Hopefully his injury doesn’t linger and he can rejoin the team before the season ends.
Garcia has made 10 appearances on the year, most recently on Wednesday. He’s allowed 13 hits, 2 walks, and 6 earned runs in 8 innings, and has struck out 5.
Robinson, who was traded to the Giants from the Tampa Bay Rays earlier in the season, makes his second appearance on the active roster. The versatile right-hander is hitting 3-13 with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.
