The Giants have a chance at their first road series win of the year. Seems like a good idea that they should pursue.

Game #36

Who: San Francisco Giants (16-19) vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (14-20)
Where: Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona
When: 1:10 p.m. PT
Regional broadcast: NBC Sports Bay Area (available through fuboTV)
National broadcast: ESPN (available through fuboTV, out of market only)
Radio: KNBR 680 AM/104.5 FM

Lineups

For the Giants, Pablo Sandoval stays in the lineup, and Wilmer Flores and Joey Bart get off days.

  1. RF — Mike Yastrzemski (L) — .287/.403/.581 — 169 OPS+
  2. LF — Alex Dickerson (L) — .207/.290/.354 — 78 OPS+
  3. 3B — Evan Longoria (R) — .301/.342/.505 — 132 OPS+
  4. 1B — Brandon Belt (L) — .329/.418/.620 — 184 OPS+
  5. 2B — Donovan Solano (R) — .336/.374/.486 — 137 OPS+
  6. DH — Pablo Sandoval (S) — .206/.267/.265 — 49 OPS+
  7. SS — Brandon Crawford (L) — .268/.349/.412 — 111 OPS+
  8. CF — Mauricio Dubón (R) — .276/.317/.329 — 81 OPS+
  9. C — Chadwick Tromp (R) — .184/.192/.327 — 41 OPS+
    RHP — Johnny Cueto — 5.40 ERA, 4.40 FIP, 33 K and 13 BB in 35 IP

And the Giants get to face hot prospect Daulton Varsho, who hasn’t played in this series and only appeared in one game the last time the teams played. Also, three of the Diamondbacks first four hitters have an on-base percentage of .338, which means nothing but intrigues me.

  1. RF — Kole Calhoun (L) — .218/.338/.491 — 121 OPS+
  2. 2B — Ketel Marte (S) — .308/.338/.414 — 103 OPS+
  3. CF — Starling Marte (R) — .322/.396/.458 — 131 OPS+
  4. LF — David Peralta (L) — .290/.338/.395 — 98 OPS+
  5. 1B — Christian Walker (R) — .309/.360/.512 — 133 OPS+
  6. 3B — Eduardo Escobar (S) — .188/.284/.316 — 63 OPS+
  7. SS — Nick Ahmed (R) — .248/.307/.376 — 84 OPS+
  8. DH — Jake Lamb (L) — .105/.209/.132 — -4 OPS+
  9. C — Daulton Varsho (L) — .167/.259/.250 — 39 OPS+
    RHP — Taylor Clarke — 2.33 ERA, 5.00 FIP, 18 K and 11 BB in 19.1 IP

Notes

No Bart: Joey Bart is getting a day off, which isn’t surprising since he’s played three days in a row, and is still getting into everyday conditioning. Still, after last week’s fiasco when forming a battery with Cueto, I was curious to see if he’d get a chance to try and work through things. Instead, he’ll get two straight rest days.

Trade watch: The trade deadline is tomorrow. The Giants could end up being sellers, and the DBacks are reportedly shopping a long list of players. There’s a not-insignificant chance that someone is traded during the game. It was the Giants Wilmer Flores, you might remember, who made headlines while with the New York Mets, when he found out mid-game that he had been traded, but wasn’t taken out of the game. Flores, who had been open about not wanting to leave the Mets organization, started crying on the field, but the trade later fell through.

Hopefully no one has their heart broken today on national TV.

Enjoy the baseball, friends.
