The Sunday series finale between the San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks is a bit bittersweet.
On the one hand, the Giants have the chance to earn a series sweep and extend their winning streak to six games.
On the other hand, they just designated for assignment outfielder Hunter Pence, and it’s understandable to be a little lot sad.

Notes
Happy Birthday, Yaz! Today is Mike Yastrzemski’s 30th birthday. Hopefully he finds the birthday magic, which is to say, he keeps doing what he’s been doing.
Prospect faceoff: Joey Bart will be playing in his fourth game of his career. And he’ll get to call pitches while Daulton Varsho steps into the box for his eleventh career game. Varsho isn’t quite the prospect that Bart is, but Fangraphs ranks him as Arizona’s second-best prospect, and the number 60 prospect in baseball.
Eyes on the Panda: Pablo Sandoval has been struggling, and seeing Hunter Pence get DFA’d has to have him on the edge a little bit. Gabe Kapler explained why the team kept Sandoval rather than Pence, but with the Giants acquiring an infielder in Daniel Robertson on Sunday morning, the pressure is pretty clearly on the Panda.
I asked Kapler why there's still a place on the roster for Pablo Sandoval and not Hunter Pence. He said without comparing the players, Sandoval's PH bat vs. RHP fills a roster need. And while he hasn't played any 3B, he's a backup option at a position where the Giants lack depth.
