I’m sorry to tell you that it wasn’t a horrible nightmare. Three times in the last four games, the Giants blew a ninth-inning lead against very good teams. In each of those three games, Trevor Gott gave up a lead-erasing or game-losing home run.
It’s ... it’s bad.
The Giants will face the Angels again tonight, on the road, with Albert Pujols one run away from tying Willie Mays at 660 on the all-time leaderboard. It’s probably not going to be a great night. But we’re all gluttons for punishment here.
Did Barry Bonds hit a home run today?
He did. It was another memorable one!
August 18, 2003: In the bottom of the 10th inning in a 3-3 game against the Braves, Bobby Cox made the call to let his reliever pitch to Bonds as the leadoff hitter. Bonds was like “yup I got this” and DEMOLISHED the first pitch he saw, driving it to the very deepest part of the yard with ease.
Please watch this video, as it is basically the opposite of the last four 2020 Giants games.

We will not enjoy the baseball today. But we’ll be here, nonetheless.
