For a while there, I really thought my filling in was going to be good luck for the Giants on Friday. It was, instead, the epitome of bad luck. Surely this streak cannot continue, right?
RIGHT?
Sean Manaea will take the mound for the Oakland Athletics on Saturday afternoon, going opposite Kevin Gausman, who is 0-1 but has impressed for the Giants thus far this season.
(I would be remiss if I did not mention that Gausman has been the subject of trade rumors already, as he only signed a one-year deal with the Giants and will be another in a long list of recent arms who we fall in love with and then they immediately skip town for “a contender” or some other such nonsense. So there’s your assignment for tonight: watch Gausman closely, and if he does well, daydream about whether a team will cough up a huge cog of the 2021 Giants team or a high-level prospect. That will be fun!)

Notes
Truly historic: If you were unfortunate enough to actually watch all of last night’s game, you missed the Giants making club history. Not in a good way!
Per Giants and Stats LLC, tonight was the Giants' first loss when leading by five or more in the ninth or later since 1929. Yikes.

A different kind of strike: Last night, over 200 laid off Oracle Park stadium employees protested outside of 24 Willie Mays Plaza. You can read more about the protest at the link below.
220 recently laid off stadium vendors demonstrated outside Oracle Park tonight. The Giants are not technically their employers, which is why they haven't done more.

“I don’t have money for paying the rent," one demonstrator said.https://t.co/hC6cZQClDE
Please try to enjoy baseball tonight. After Friday, it will NOT be easy.
