Due to the coronavirus outbreak suspending the 2020 MLB season, we’re rewatching the three San Francisco Giants postseason runs, game-by-game, on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday nights at 6 p.m. PT, with a gamethread for each.

The San Francisco Giants opened the 2014 World Series with a bang, beating the Kansas City Royals 7-1 in Game 1. Hunter Pence kicked things off with a two-run home run in the first inning, and with Madison Bumgarner dealing on the mound, the Giants never looked back.

Now the Giants will look to take a 2-0 series lead. It won’t be easy, as Game 1 was the first loss of the postseason for the Royals, and the teams are staying at Kauffman Stadium for Game 2.

San Francisco is sending right-hander Jake Peavy to the mound. Peavy came to the Giants in a midseason trade from the Boston Red Sox, and finished the year with a 7-13 record, a 3.73 ERA, a 4.11 FIP, and 158 strikeouts in 202.2 innings. In 12 starts with the Giants he had a 6-4 record, a 2.17 ERA, a 3.03 FIP, and 58 strikeouts in 78.2 innings.

Kansas City is looking to even things up behind 23-year old Yordano Ventura. A right-hander, Ventura finished the season with a 14-10 record, a 3.20 ERA, a 3.60 FIP, and 159 strikeouts in 183 innings.
