Due to the coronavirus outbreak suspending the 2020 MLB season, we’re rewatching the three San Francisco Giants postseason runs, game-by-game, on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday nights at 6 p.m. PT, with a gamethread for each.
The San Francisco Giants are finally in the driver’s seat. After falling behind the Cincinnati Reds 2-0 in the best-of-five NLDS, and behind the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 in the NLCS, the Giants find themselves in a good position. A 2-0 win in Game 3 of the World Series gave them a commanding 3-0 lead over the Detroit Tigers.
After winning six straight elimination games, the Giants now have to just win one of the next four contests. That starts in Detroit.
To try and close out the season, the Giants are turning to Matt Cain, who finished the year with a 16-5 record, a 2.79 ERA, a 3.40 FIP, and 193 strikeouts in 219.1 innings. He made the All-Star team and finished sixth in Cy Young voting.
The Tigers are trying to keep their season alive behind Max Scherzer, who finished the season with a 16-7 record, a 3.74 ERA, a 3.27 FIP, and 231 strikeouts in 187.2 innings.
