Gamethread: 2012 NLDS Game 5

Due to the coronavirus outbreak suspending the 2020 MLB season, we’re rewatching the three San Francisco Giants postseason runs, game-by-game, on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday nights at 6 p.m. PT, with a gamethread for each.

After falling behind 2-0 in the best-of-five NLDS, the San Francisco Giants have won two straight on the road against the Cincinnati Reds. That sets up the most exciting thing in sports: A winner-take-all postseason contest.

The Giants have the momentum, having won two straight to come roaring back into a series that looked over. But the Reds have the home field advantage.

San Francisco will try to march into the NLCS behind Matt Cain, who finished 2012 with a 2.79 ERA, a 3.40 FIP, 193 strikeouts in 219.1 innings, an All-Star appearance, and a sixth-place finish in Cy Young voting.

Cincinnati will counter with Mat Latos (hehe), who finished the year 14-4, with a 3.48 ERA, a 3.85 FIP, and 185 strikeouts in 209.1 innings.
