Hypothetical recap: Giants end up with another four-game split

With the MLB season suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak, there are no baseball games and limited baseball news. So I’m creating a hypothetical season — complete with news and recaps — until baseball resumes. All news and recaps will have the hypothetical tag, so you can at least know when you’re suspending reality. And you can click “hypothetical season” above the headline to see everything that has happened in this “season.”

The San Francisco Giants couldn’t give you a victory on the holiday. It’s okay. It happens. You’re used to watching the Giants lose. It’s not even really a letdown at this point. It’s just a thing that happens.

Logan Webb pitched well on Memorial Day. Not great, but well. His counterpart, Trevor Williams, also pitched well. Not great, but well.

It was a well-pitched and well-played baseball game, despite being between two bad baseball teams. One team had to win and that team was the Pittsburgh Pirates, by a score of 4-3.

Brandon Belt hit a home run, which was cool. Brandon Crawford made one of those over the shoulder full-speed catches on a pop fly in the outfield, and then, an inning later, Mauricio Dubon did the same, like a mini-Craw.

It wasn’t enough to win, but again: you didn’t really care. That’s just fine.

The Giants and Pirates ended up with the dreaded four-game split. Yeesh. The Giants are now 24-29.

Hopefully you had the day off. Hopefully you spent it with loved ones. Hopefully you ate good food.
