Weekend BP: Who will be the next three opening day starters?

I have no [redacted] clue.

Happy weekend, all. Here’s hoping the weekend brings you and your loved ones good health and good news.

The day before the MLB season was suspended, the San Francisco Giants officially announced that Johnny Cueto would be the opening day starter.

Now we don’t know when or if there will be a 2020 opening day. But if there is, it’s safe to assume that Cueto will still be the starter.

But what about next year? And the year after? And the year after? Who will be the opening day starter in those years?

The Giants don’t have a clear cut high-end starting prospect who you can pencil in to make an educated guess. They don’t even have a Madison Bumgarner signed on for the next five years.

I suppose Cueto - who still has a year on his contract after 2020 - is the favorite for 2021 as well. But if this season resumes at some point, there’s a decent chance he ends up being traded.

So Cueto is the 2021 favorite, but I would certainly take the field.

2022? 2023? Maybe I’m a bad Giants writer, but I have absolutely no clue where to even start.

Put in your bets now. We’ll revisit this in a few years and give virtual high fives to anyone who gets it right.
