The San Francisco Giants were reportedly interested in signing outfielder Yasiel Puig just before the pause button was hit on the season with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jon Heyman of the MLB Network said the Giants and Miami Marlins were in contact with Puig on the latest episode of the Big Time Baseball podcast.
According to a report from Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times, Puig turned down a one-year deal with a National League worth $10 million.
Puig started the 2019 season with the Cincinnati Reds before being traded to the Cleveland Indians, batting .267 with 24 home runs and 84 RBI. The 29-year-old also stole 19 bases.
The 2014 All-Star still has some pop and can be a good option for the Giants, even if it comes as a backup.
Too bad Madison Bumgarner is a Diamondback now, it would’ve been fun to see him on the same team as Puig.
It will be dependent on cost, but if Puig is looking for north of $10 million, do you think it is worth a look for the Giants?
