Monday BP: Historical gamethread planning

Let’s hang out and watch some baseball.

Houston Astros v. San Francisco Giants

On Friday, I asked the McCovey Chronicles community what type of content they wanted to see over the next month, and potentially months. The MLB season is suspended a minimum of two weeks (meaning it wouldn’t begin until April 9), but in reality it’s suspended indefinitely. Until the coronavirus outbreak is somewhat under control, we don’t have baseball.

Live baseball, that is. The community came forward with some outstanding ideas for content, and I’m really looking forward to getting creative and putting out some unique stuff in the coming weeks and months.

One such idea that seemed popular was a gamethread for an older game that we could watch together, at the same time. So let’s do it.

In order to have such a gamethread, we need to agree on two things: A game, and a date.

I initially thought that Matt Cain’s perfect game was clear choice for the former, but NBC Sports Bay Area had the same thought and aired it on Sunday night. So now we’re back to square one. To solve that choice, I’m including a poll at the bottom of this article, so you can vote on which game you’d like to see.

I’m including only games that are available in full on YouTube, and Cain’s perfecto is included.

Now, for the latter. I have no idea what people’s schedules look like in this uncertain and potentially-isolated time. So for date and time, let’s try handling this the way Roger and Kevin handle nominees for the CPL. If you have a date and time you’d like, propose it in the comment section. If you see a date and time you like, rec that comment. The proposed timing with the most recs will be our first historical gamethread.

Please propose any and all tips and ideas you have, such as how often you’d like to do this, other games you’d like to see, and how best to recreate ballpark snacks at home.
