It’s been a strange few years for Minor League baseball. In 2020, the Minor Leagues were cancelled entirely, with some prospects heading to their organization’s pro ball Alternate Training Sites, and other prospects facing a lost developmental year.
And in 2021 the Minors are getting a shakeup, with a lot of affiliates being ditched, and a few being swapped around.
For the San Francisco Giants, Sacramento and Richmond will remain the AAA and AA affiliates, respectively, with Eugene taking over as the new A+ team. The old A+ team, San Jose, will now replace Augusta as the current A team.

Losing affiliates, and having Minor League Baseball as a whole get smaller, is an enormous bummer, and a huge hit to developmental baseball. But it’s comforting, at least, to know that if you live in the Bay Area, Sacramento, Oregon, or Virginia, you can still head out to the ballpark for some great baseball, and watch your favorite future Giants.
You know ... when the world allows it.
