Hello and happy Saturday.
Not long ago, the esteemed Henry Schulman — who covered the San Francisco Giants for the San Francisco Chronicle — decided to put away his pen and call it a career. And now his colleague Chris Haft is doing the same, though it’s unclear if it’s a full-time thing.
I'm part of the ranks of https://t.co/MJX63QDA2O writers taking early retirement. I also am part of all that I have met (Tennyson's "Ulysses"). Thus I will keep writing baseball somehow. The game's my north star, ushering me to the present and illuminating my path to the future.

Haft covered the Giants for MLB.com, and also authored the book “If These Walls Could Talk: Stories from the San Francisco Giants Dugout, Locker Room, and Press Box.” He also co-authored Mike Murphy’s book “From the Stick to the Cove: My Six Decades with the San Francisco Giants.”
I’ve never met Haft, but like most people here, I’ve read a lot of his work. And judging by the reaction from those who have met him, it sure seems like the Giants beat is losing a good one.
Congratulations, Chris, on a classy and respected career. You did the impossible: performed this job well without making a single enemy. (Well, except that one taxi driver who stiffed us in Philly.) Between you and Hank, the Giants beat is shedding a ton of expertise this month. https://t.co/9GSUULGWsZ

The kindest person I've ever met in a press box. And as everyone on the #SFGiants beat knows, no one picks their spots with a well-timed joke better than Chris.

Congratulations on an incredible run. I owe you a few Manhattans. https://t.co/3WQJOfkujM
