Hello and happy Monday.
There’s been a lot of talk this offseason linking Trevor Bauer to the San Francisco Giants. None of it really seems to be rooted in anything other than the Giants being an up and coming team with a lot of money they could spend if they want to, and Bauer’s agent being from Northern California.
It’s not like there have been reports that the Giants are negotiating with Bauer, or even interested in the first place.
But still. There’s been a lot of discussion.
So I want to ask you a hypothetical: assume Bauer is signed to a very reasonable contract. Do you want him on the Giants?
Consider that:
A. He had a ridiculously good 2020
B. He had a pedestrian 4.34 FIP in 2019
C. He’s not a very likable person and his values certainly don’t align with most people who comment on this blog
I’m always morbidly curious to see how people feel about signing a good player that they don’t like. The Giants surely have tons of players whose values are in opposition with yours, it’s just that most of the time they never let you in on the secret.
Bauer lets you in on the secret, and then he parades it around for you, just to make sure you got the memo. It’s a little harder to let it go in that form. Ignorance may be bliss, but closing your eyes and covering your ears and shouting, “LA LA LA I CAN’T HEAR YOU” is not.
On the other hand ... he won the Cy Young last year.
