Well San Francisco Giants fans, it’s time for a time-honored McCovey Chronicles tradition: The Community Prospect List.
Before we get started, I want to extend a huge thank you to Roger Munter and Kevin J. Cunningham for the work they’ve done with the CPL in the past few years, as well as to all the former McCoven who have made this such an incredible and informative tradition.
Now, onto some rules/guidelines, most of which are carryovers:
- I’m not going to post these on as strict of a schedule as Roger and Kevin did, but there will be a new CPL every two or three days. Polling will be closed when a new CPL opens.
- We will rank 44 prospects, on account of Willie McCovey.
- Ties will result in a runoff, with the loser of the runoff being given the next spot on the list.
- All players who are rookie eligible are included.
- With the exception of this first post, there will always be a minimum of four players to vote from. When we get down to just four players remaining, I’ll ask you to nominate players in the comments, and the four who receive the most recs will be added to the next list.
- On the list of players to vote for, a player’s first name links to their Baseball-Reference page, and their last name links to their Fangraphs page, when those pages are available.
- On the list of who has already been voted for, the prospect’s entire name will link to the CPL where they were voted for (i.e. in CPL #2, the top prospect will link back to CPL #1). Additionally, I’ve created a group for this year’s CPL which you can access by clicking “2021 Community Prospect List” at the top of the page.
- If the Giants acquire a prospect while we’re in the midst of the CPL, we will do a vote to see where to place them.
- Make your case in the comments. Debate people. Make stump speeches. Share videos. You know the drill. Have fun.
With that said, let’s get the party started.
Rather than having a vote for the initial names, I’m sticking with the same three that kicked off last year’s CPL, because they remain the top three in almost everyone’s list (though I suspect there will be a different winner this year).
Here we go!
