Sunday BP: Sporting News names Donovan Solano an All-Star

A well-deserved honor.

Hello and happy Sunday.

There’s no 2020 MLB All-Star Game, which is a bummer for the San Francisco Giants, because they likely would have had a few very deserving selections. But on Friday, Sporting News unveiled their selections for a hypothetical National League All-Star team, as voted on by NL executives.

They only chose a starting lineup, but one Giant was featured: second baseman Donovan Solano.

Solano had a tremendous year, though he certainly wasn’t the team’s best player. Brandon Belt (who was the only first baseman to receive votes behind Freddie Freeman) and Mike Yastrzemski (who received votes in the outfield but lost to Juan Soto, Mookie Betts, and Ronald Acuña Jr.) deserve that distinction, but Solano earns the nod for being, in the eyes of the voters, the best second baseman in the National League.

Well earned, Donnie Barrels. Very well earned.
