Wednesday BP: Smyly and Gausman contract predictions

What will they get and what should they get?

Hello and happy Wednesday.

The San Francisco Giants have two notable free agents as they enter the offseason: left-handed pitcher Drew Smyly, and right-handed pitcher Kevin Gausman.

Both signed with the Giants for the 2020 season on modest one-year deals ($4 million for Smyly and $9 million for Gausman). And they had tremendous seasons.

The Giants have, understandably, expressed interest in retaining both players, especially since their rotation is somewhere between a question mark and a mess for 2021. And both pitchers have told the media they would love to stay in the black and orange for a full season with Buster Posey.

But after their 2020 performances, they’ll both have a lot of suitors. So, put on your general manager cap (or your president of baseball operations cap), and enter negotiations. What contracts would you be comfortable giving Smyly and Gausman? And what contracts do you think they will receive, from the Giants or from another team that brings a big bag of cash?

Did Barry Bonds hit a home run today?

No he did not.

How many days until Opening Day?

Have a great Wednesday, friends.
