Last week, Bruce Bochy was an “A” manager and the Giants were a “B+” organization. But after another week of abject failure and a run of 12 losses in 16 games, FanPulse voters have reassessed their opinions on both.
Team confidence dropped from the season high of 88% to 72%, the lowest rating since 71% in week 17. We have moved beyond the halo effect of the Bay Bridge Trophy, I see.
Voters are saying “THANK YOU BOCH!” in their own way, giving him an approval rating of just 84%, down from 93% last week. I wonder if this confidence is tied to the 2,000 win mark for his managerial record. I’ve noticed in the comments that there are some perhaps disgruntled people out there who hold a dim view of 2,000 wins on Bochy’s managerial record.
Maybe that lowered confidence rating is related to that. Maybe it’s related to voters’ belief that he’s not going to be able to get to 2,000 wins. Maybe it has nothing to do with 2,000 wins and everything to do with Bruce Bochy sticking with Jeff Samardzija too long in his last start and then doing the same with Madison Bumgarner in his start the other night.

There was a national question this week, too:
Kind of a vague one, but an interesting result anyway. I think I agree with the majority here. My view, though, involves a broad definition of “brawl”. I don’t need to see punches being thrown or first base coaches tackling players, or even Yasiel Puig attempting to take on an entire team (although, yes, I very much enjoyed the image).
Just give me everyone on the field, players rushing from the bullpen, and a lot of face to face bodying and wild gesticulations. I want the suggestion of a huge brawl, because that image just looks silly. A bunch of guys in pajamas huddling up and threatening to consider getting aggressive. I’ll take the tension of maybe versus the “Oh my!” of an actual thing.
