Tonight should be all about getting revenge on Drew Smyly, who pitched seven shutout innings against the Giants a little more than a week ago. He made it look easy, when his career up to this point suggests that it should not have been. Sure, he was facing the Giants, and they’re usually a pretty easy team to beat if you’re not a premiere power pitcher, but now he has to face the Giants at home.
Theoretically, it should go differently... even if... you know... it probably won’t.

SP — Tyler Beede
Beede seems to have lost some oomph in his fastball, and his last three starts support that there’s something going on here:
14.1 IP, 8.16 ERA, 14 strikeouts, 5 walks, 28 hits (6 doubles). All losses, of course. Maybe he’s hit a wall, maybe the league has figured him out. Either way, this might be his last start before the Giants make an adjustment in the rotation. Not that they have a lot of options, of course, but somewhere between Logan Webb, Dereck Rodriguez, and Andrew Suarez might be a spot starter when his next turn comes up in the rotation... if things don’t turn out tonight. Who knows? Maybe this will be a good matchup for him the second time around.
