Giants vs. Nationals, 8/7

Ross (1-3, 8.10 ERA) vs. Anderson (3-3, 5.08 ERA)

MLB: Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants Cody Glenn-USA TODAY Sports

Let’s get this over with. Congrats to the Nats on their sweep.

It’s a very bad thing that Shaun Anderson has a K/9 of 6.0 and a BB/9 of 3.2. He had zero strikeouts in his last start, but seven in the start before that. But he’s had three or fewer strikeouts in nine of his fifteen starts and in every start, he’s allowed at least two runs.

This will be just the fifth appearance Joe Ross will have made for the Nationals since May 24th. He made two starts and two appearances out of the bullpen in between options down and back from Triple-A, but in his most recent start five days ago, he pitched 5.1 shutout innings in Arizona. He walked five and allowed a hit while striking out just three.

The 26-year old Bishop O’Dowd grad has faced the Giants once before, striking out six in four innings while allowing four runs all the way back in his rookie season of 2015. Hunter Pence hit a two-run home run off of him in what would be a 5-0 Giants win.
