Good morning, McCoven!

Admittedly, I haven’t been as on the ball with Giants awareness. I keep up with the news, of course, and the games. But the between the lines type things have slipped right by me. With the All Star Game quickly approaching, I knew that Will Smith would be the Giants’ lone representative. But what hadn’t occurred to me was that this will be the first season that Buster Posey is not an All Star, dating back to his MVP season in 2012.

To be clear, this is not me making a case for Posey to be an All Star this season. It’s just a reckoning, of sorts, with the passage of time. It seems like just yesterday, our baby-faced rookie catcher was helping the Giants win their first World Series, and winning all of the awards. But it’s been almost ten years, and Posey is not the offensive player he once was. And that makes me sad, not just as a fan of his, but as someone roughly his age who is starting to feel the effects of time on the human body.

But it’s not all doom and gloom, despite what some people named Bryan may tell you, (he of the “Buster Posey Death Watch” on the old Chroncast.)

No, Posey is fine, for an aging catcher. He may not be an All Star anymore, but he’s not washed either. So at least we’ve got that going for us. But I will miss seeing his smiling face (and those of his family) at the festivities this year.
