Bumgarner (5-7, 3.66 ERA) vs. Morejon (0-0, 2.70 ERA)

Los Angeles Dofgers v San Diego Padres

Today’s game means a whole lot to at least one of the people on the field today, and that’s Bruce Bochy. Though Bochy has been with the Giants a long time, he was with the Padres for about three times as long, between playing, coaching in their minors system, and managing the club. I can’t imagine what it must feel like to know you’re walking in for the last time in your career.

Tonight, we’ll see Madison Bumgarner for what feels like the eighth possibly last time as a Giant. I don’t think they’re going to trade him, but if they do, this really, actually, will be his last, since the deadline is before his next scheduled start.

Anyway, Bumgarner will be facing off against Adrian Morejon, a 20 year old rookie making his third appearance in the majors. Morejon has given up just one run in his 3.1 innings of work so far, and his only start saw him pitch just 2.1 innings before handing the ball over to last night’s starting pitcher, Cal Quantrill.

So basically a rookie the Giants haven’t seen before. Not usually a great sign for the offense, but who knows.

Pre-Game Notes:

Ryder Jones has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Double-A.

Joe West is behind the plate today, which means this picture is relevant. I mean, its always relevant but today it is doubly so.
