Good morning, McCoven!
Just a heads up that this will be the thread throughout the weekend. You can come and go from the game threads and recaps if you’d like, it’s up to you.
So, as it stands right now (with right now being Thursday afternoon) the Giants are tied for second place in the division, and three and a half games back from the wild card. It’s looking a little less promising than it was even earlier this week, but to be fair, the Giants still only lost one game this week, so it’s not like they’re running out of steam on the epic July run.
Standing between us and the trade deadline are the San Diego Padres (and one game against the Phillies). Now, if my theory about this being the long delayed second half of the 2016 season, the Padres shouldn’t be a problem. It was only after the All Star Break that year that the Giants began to implode. Before that, I’m pretty sure Johnny Cueto had single-handedly shut out the Padres three times that season.
Anyway, it’s a good series to test my theory and test this team before the big decisions get made (although maybe they already have by the time you read this, since I’m writing this in your past).
Hold your favorite players and prospects tight and tell them that you love them. The trade deadline is coming.
