The Giants have been on a tear lately. The team has gone 10-2 in the month of July after scraping out a winning June. They have burst into July scoring the most runs in baseball and hitting the most home runs, which is absolutely wild.

It’s like they woke up from a three year nap and decided to finish the 2016 season.

It’s understandable to be skeptical about whether they can sustain the momentum they have right now, based on, well, basic knowledge about the rest of the season before June. And the last two and a half seasons before it.

The team’s hot July has people looking hopefully at the Wild Card race, in which the Giants are only three games back from the second spot. And while that may be true, they are also behind five other teams, having passed the Padres last night, including two others in the National League West

If the Giants aren’t able to sustain, and opt to do nothing at the deadline (or, Mays forbid, be buyers) then it will be considered a disaster, a wasted season and a waste of trade potential.

That said, there’s no real way to know yet if what we’ve been seeing over the last few weeks isn’t something they can continue. And I understand the perspective of those wanting the team to hold on to what they’ve got and make a run of it.

Basically, I don’t envy the front office. If this does end up being a flash in the pan, it came at the worst possible time for those who have to make the big decisions. What do you think the team should do? And is that different that what you think they will do?
