Important reminder to everyone: tonight is Dereck Rodriguez’s bobblehead night:

Congrats to Rodriguez (3-5, 4.85 ERA) for avoiding the minor embarrassment of not being on the roster (either by way of DFA or demotion) for his bobblehead night. It’s at least an opportunity regardless of performance to celebrate his importance to the franchise, as brief as it might have been. Or, more positively, as brief as it may be. He is still here, after all.

Here’s who Dereck Rodriguez won’t be facing at first pitch tonight, since he’s not starting:

RF — Adam Jones
2B — Ketel Marte
3B — Eduardo Escobar
LF — David Peralta
1B — Christian Walker
SS — Nick Ahmed
C — Alex Avila
CF — Tim Locastro
SP — Zack Greinke

A reminder: the Dbacks are 26% better than league average against left-handed pitching. As a team, they have an .859 OPS (.736 against righties).

In the meantime, the biggest part of tonight’s game, which formally kicks off the second half of the Giants’ schedule (game #82), is the starting pitching matchup.

Zack Greinke is as close as we have to Greg Maddux these days, although, just to show how to dominate Maddux was, by the end of this age-35 season (Greinke’s present circumstance), he had amassed 257 wins, a 2.84 ERA (3.00 FIP), and career ERA+ of 145.

Greinke’s at 195 wins, 3.37 ERA (3.39 FIP), and 124 ERA+. Okay, so, maybe he’s not the closest we have to Maddux, but he’s a thinking man’s pitcher. It’ll be interesting to watch him attack this Giants’ lineup, one that was most recently foiled by a 25-year old with a 6.09 ERA in Triple-A.

1B — Brandon Belt
RF — Mike Yastrzemski
3B — Pablo Sandoval
LF — Alex Dickerson
C — Stephen Vogt
SS — Brandon Crawford
CF — Kevin Pillar
2B — Joe Panik
SP — Drew Pomeranz
