Anderson (2-2, 3.94 ERA) vs. Kelly (7-7, 3.93 ERA)

MLB: Washington Nationals at San Francisco Giants Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Anderson’s sub-4.00 ERA looks good for a rookie, but that 4.45 FIP reveals a darker truth. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks’ 46-37 Pythagorean W-L shows that their 42-41 record is alarmingly unlucky. They’ve yet to lose in San Francisco this season and have outscored the Giants 39-9. Maybe that explains their odd Pythag/Actual split or maybe it shows that these next three games are going to be quite painful to watch.

RF — Adam Jones
CF — Jarrod Dyson
2B — Ketel Marte
LF — David Peralta
3B — Eduardo Escobar
1B — Jake Lamb
SS — Nick Ahmed
C — Carson Kelly
SP — Merrill Kelly

Kelly’s last start came against the Giants on Sunday in that disappointing-ish 3-2 extra innings loss. He struck out nine in six innings.

1B — Brandon Belt
RF — Mike Yastrzemski
C — Buster Posey
3B — Pablo Sandoval
LF — Alex Dickerson
SS — Brandon Crawford
CF — Kevin Pillar
2B — Joe Panik
SP — Shaun Anderson

Anderson started that same game and was perfectly cromulent: 2 earned runs in six innings, but just two strikeouts. That lineup did not feature Ketel Marte or Jake Lamb, however, so we’ll see how he handles two of the Diamondbacks’ best hitters.
