Congrats to Brandon Belt on joining the 1,000 game club for the Giants. He joins Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval, and Brandon Crawford. Per John Shea, “no team has as many as three active players to play at least 1,000 games with their current team.”
The Belt Wars never planned to be a 1,000 game war, and yet here we are, still right in the middle of it, like some modern House of Plantagenet.
Joe Panik is still 393 games away, so, it’s unlikely we see a fifth 1,000-game Giant anytime soon; but, if you had to guess, who might it be? Will Joey Bart get there? What about Heliot Ramos? Does Steven Duggar have an outside chance?
Evan Longoria is one of only three Rays to have played 1,000 games for them. The other two? Carl Crawford and Ben Zobrist. Paul Goldschmidt and Luis Gonzalez are the only two Diamondbacks to play 1,000 games for the Diamondbacks, just not at the same time.
Anyway, it’s a rare occurrence. Beyond that, congratulations to Brandon Belt for achieving this remarkable run of longevity. Hard to do in the punishing world of pro sports, and he’s certainly put his body and mind on the line to achieve it.
