A win today would give the Giants their first 4-game winning streak of 2019. They had four 4-game winnings streaks and one 5-game winning streak last year which seems almost impossible in hindsight.
This is definitely the team’s best shot right now. Not because of the Brewers’ lineup —
CF — Lorenzo Cain
RF — Christian Yelich
LF — Ryan Braun
1B — Yasmani Grandal
3B — Mike Moustakas
2B — Hernan Perez
3B — Orlando Arcia
C — Manny Pina
SP — Jimmy Nelson
Oh no That’s a pretty good. And it’s certainly not because of the Giants’ lineup —
2B — Joe Panik
LF — Mike Yastrzemski
1B — Brandon Belt
3B — Pablo Sandoval
C — Stephen Vogt
RF — Kevin Pillar
SS — Brandon Crawford
CF — Steven Duggar
SP — Madison Bumgarner
Oh no. That has been one of the worst in baseball all year long. But it’s because of that last dude on the lineup card. He’s still, probably, the Giants’ best starter at the moment. He has a sub-3.00 ERA in his last four starts, and although the last time he faced the Brewers wound up with him being absolutely embarrassed via a grand slam, he has, historically, done very well against them.
And from a trade chip standpoint, the Giants really do need him to pitch well here. I mean, they’re counting on those two Double-A relievers they’re going to get in exchange for him to help them in the 2024 Wild Card game.
