Some sad news to relay before first pitch:

Heather Holmes, the wife of Giants’ Director of Amateur Scouting Michael Holmes, passed away today.

The rest of the tweet says that she passed away at home “surrounded by her loving family”, which includes Michael Holmes as well as their seven-year old son, Landon.

The Giants released the following statement from Farhan Zaidi:

“Our hearts are heavy today with the news of Heather Holmes’ passing,” said President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi. “Heather had been courageously fighting a battle with cancer and passed away this morning surrounded by her family. We send our love and deepest sympathies to Michael and his family and are keeping them in our thoughts.”

Our condolences to Heather’s family on this sad day.
