Good morning, McCoven!

Two years ago today, Reyes Moronta was first called up. And though he was sent back down before getting into a game, it was technically the start of, as Kerry Crowley has since dubbed it, “The Reyes Moronta Experience.”

Grant had this to say at the time:

And while he’ll probably be gone before you know it, 100-mph fastballs and embarrassed batters are habit forming. Before last season, Moronta didn’t even merit a mention in a post about bullpen prospects. This year, he might be the most exciting part of the 2017 Giants, give or take.

And though Moronta was sent down almost immediately after this was published, returning as a September call-up later that year, Grant was not wrong about Moronta’s future with the team. He became a fixture of the 2018 bullpen and almost a folk hero of the early 2019 team with the way he was racking up strike outs.

So, Happy Reyes Moronta Day!
